Beloved Sara Veronica Palacios, 55, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. She leaves behind a big hole in many hearts, as her impact on people’s lives was colossal. She was a leader and mentor at work, a mother figure to many, and a family trailblazer.
Sara was born in El Paso, Texas, on October 17, 1966. She is survived by her mother, husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, nephews, and nieces.
Sara Veronica’s family is so proud of what she built in her short time on earth. She ruled at home and at work. At home, she ruled with love, kindness, and empathy. She set goals and achieved them to benefit her family, in hopes of giving them the best life possible. Sara Veronica sacrificed her own needs to offer her loved ones a life that was not available to her as the daughter of an immigrant mother with few means or resources. Sara Veronica did not let her humble beginnings set her back. She broke barriers, fiercely blazed her own path, and demonstrated leadership by example.
Sara was an athlete and beauty queen in her teens and an entrepreneur in her twenties, when she started her own business. When Sara Veronica walked into the room, everybody noticed. Sara was known for her beautiful smile, her one dimple on her right cheek, and long black hair. She loved traveling. She was creative, a believer in inclusion in all ways, and she loved birthdays. Her birthday celebrations were a month-long event. Sara Veronica liked to make people smile; she had the best mischievous laugh.
Sara Veronica continued her accomplishments when she started at T-Mobile in February 2000, where she started as a part-time kiosk girl selling cell phones at the mall and rose through the ranks in a few years as a district manager, overseeing all El Paso T-mobile stores with hundreds of staff. Sara was one of T-mobile’s longest-tenured leaders; she recently celebrated her 22-year anniversary. And accomplished it all with only a high school education.
Sara was very proud of her awards and accolades at work, but they came second to what she was building throughout the years at T-mobile-- a longstanding group of young leaders she personally mentored.
